On January 11, 2006, Penguin's head coach Michel Therrien lashed out against his team's sloppy play and questioned their work ethic (article here). Ever since, the team has dropped the gloves and raised their fists of fury to try and prove Therrien wrong. Although they continue to lose (fights and games), one cannot ignore the number of times the Pens have gone to fist-of-cuffs.
